Abstract

Profile of Reinhard Zollitsch, 57, a professor at the University of Maine who has canoed solo through many of the state's waters. Zollitsch says that paddling solo is a heightened experience, and that he relishes the self-reliance required. One of his favorite trips is the Fish River Loop at the northern tip of Aroostook County, through Long and Eagle Lakes. A native of Kiel, Germany, Zollitsch came to the United States in 1962 and began to canoe in 1974. Details.
