Abstract
An article on the New England Shipbuilding yard, which was built in South Portland during World War I to supply "Ocean" class freighters for Great Britain, but became best known for building Liberty freighters in World War II. The shipyard grew quickly into the largest industrial complex Maine had ever seen, changing South Portland forever from a collection of small towns into a city.
