Abstract
"What's in a Picture?" Late 1800s photograph of a Brewer brickyard, showing workers and a foreman posed in the yard. Brewer was known for producing such high-quality bricks that they became an industry standard. In the 1860s, at the industry's peak, some twenty brickyards employed more than 200 seasonal workers firing 15 million bricks annually. Bricks haven't been manufactured in Brewer since the 1950s.
