Abstract
Despite rounds of military cutbacks, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard on Seavey Island on the Maine side of the Piscataqua River, has ducked closure. These days, with massive cutbacks and realignments in the offing, its survival is in serious jeopardy. William McDonough, leader of the Seacoast Shipyard Association, has fought for the yard's survival and is lining up supporters. Brian Hamel, who helped redevelop Pease Air Force Base in N.H. and Loring Air Force Base in Limestone after their closures, and Kittery town councilor Dennis Estes talk about contingency plans for the base and how it might be redeveloped.
