Abstract
Rosemary Whitney and Debby Murray of Portland keep beehives at Whitney's farm in Pownal. A growing interest in backyard beekeeping has swept Maine in recent years, and state apiarist Tony Jadczak says the Maine Department of Agriculture is giving more seminars on recreational beekeeping. Bob Egan's Abnaki Farms in Skowhegan is one of the principal sources of new bee colonies for Maine apiarists, many of whom say they are fascinated by bees. With details on Whitney and Murray's hives, how they operate their venture, and their honey production.
