An article on mythical characters associated with Maine, including: Bert of "Bert and I," from the 1957 comedy album by Marshall Dodge and Robert Bryan; Barnabas Collins of the Gothic 1960s soap opera "Dark Shadows;" Jessica Fletcher, a mystery writer turned sleuth played on CBS by Angela Lansbury in the 1980s and 1990s; Sal, of Robert McCloskey's book, "Blueberries for Sal;" Cujo, a dog in Stephen King's novel of the same name; Paul Bunyan; Benjamin Franklin "Hawkeye" Pierce, a TV/movie character on M*A*S*H; Miniver Cheevy, a creation of poet Edwin Arlington Robinson; Earlene Pomerleau, narrator of Carolyn Chute's novel, "Beans of Egypt, Maine; and Wilbur and Charlotte, the pig and spider protagonists of E.B.
