Abstract

An article on the Bangor Symphony Orchestra and conductor Xiao-Lu Li, an internationally known conductor who was born in Shanghai. He is also the conductor and music director of the Eastern Connecticut Symphony Orchestra and chief conductor of the China National Symphony Orchestra in Beijing, to which he travels almost monthly. He lives in Louisiana, with his wife and two daughters. Because he auditioned in Bangor just days after Sept. 11, 2001, he feels a special bond with the city, and orchestra members say they are playing better than ever.
