Abstract
An article on the Maine Memory Network (www.mainememory.net), a free online digitized collection of nearly 7,000 images from the collections of the Maine Historical Society (MHS) in Portland and 130 other historical groups across the state. MHS director Richard D'Abate won state and federal grants for the project, which debuted in 2000 as the first state collection available online. The site logs almost 4,000 visitors a month. A sister site, www.vintagemaineimages.com, will make a print of an image, part of the proceeds of which go to the contributing group. The site has been particularly useful for educators.
