Abstract

"North by East" piece on Virginia-based People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) and its new Fish Empathy Project. Bates College alumnus and PETA member J. Coulter Leslie asked the school to shut down the Bates Fishing Club. PETA also asked the Bangor Daily News to stop printing its fishing column or at least move it to the obituaries page.
