Abstract

"North by East" piece on California rigger Bruce Schwab, who spent a year at Portland Yacht Services preparing his yacht for a nonstop, unassisted race around the world. He was the first American to complete the regatta. The race began in France last November, and Schwab competed on a shoestring budget. With details on how Maine has honored him and how Maine craftsmen contributed to his success.
