"North by East" piece on how actor Paul Newman has contributed to causes in Waterville and central Maine since he filmed the HBO movie "Empire Falls" in the area two years ago. He has donated thousands of dollars to nonprofits in the region, most recently a second $10,000 gift to Kennebec Messalonskee Trails, Inc.
