Abstract

"Dining Down East" piece on a reprint of Helen (Leidy) Hamlin's classic memoir of life in the Maine wilderness, "Nine Mile Bridge: Three Years in the Maine Woods," first published in 1945. Hamlin was a Fort Kent native, a teacher, and the wife of a game warden. She reluctantly left the North Woods after she had her first child.
