Abstract

"North by East" piece on a group of civil engineering students at the University of Maine at Orono who have built a trebuchet for the Composite Catapult Competition in the Netherlands this month. The medieval-type catapults must be made from fiber-reinforced polymer-composite materials, which UMaine has pioneered as a major ingredient in reinforced wooden beams.
