Abstract

"Inside Maine" piece on the celebration of St. Croix's quadrennial last year, which prompted Congress to appropriate funds to upgrade the Saint Croix International Historic Site near Calais. Local boat operators have added trips around Saint Croix Island, where Samuel de Champlain and others tried to start a French colony in 1604. Parks Canada has its own displays on the opposite shore.
