Abstract

"North by East" piece on how some Maine beaches, such as Long Sands Beach in York, have become "tent cities," as increasing numbers of beachgoers opt to stay out of the sun. Jim Fabiano, who lives on Long Sands Beach, says York's tents have an air of seasonal permanence about them that he hasn't seen at other beaches.
