Abstract

"North by East" piece on George Martikke of Starks, president of Boer Goat Breeders of Maine. He says he and the fifty or so other goat breeders in Maine can't keep up with demand, which is being driven by immigrants from Mexico, Africa, and Asia, who use goat meat in traditional dishes. Meat goats can be raised to market weight in seven months, and six goats can be raised on an acre of land.
