Abstract

"North by East" piece on greater efficiencies in the postal system, which do not preclude the option of having an item cancelled with a local postmark upon request. Because all mail in Maine is processed in either Hampden or Portland, mail from one house to another in Fort Kent logs close to four hundred miles before arriving at its destination.
