Abstract

An article on Rick Tibbetts, 47, a professional forager of every type of wild edible from stinging nettles to wild mushrooms. The author, along with Rob Evans and Nancy Pugh of Portland's Hugo's restaurant, accompany Tibbetts on an expedition for matsutake mushrooms. Tibbetts' knowledge of the woods has been hard-earned and slowly acquired, and he keeps his locations secret. Once he delivered a 47-pound hen-of-the-woods mushroom to Fore Street restaurant in Portland. He conducts hikes for would-be mushroom seekers.
