Abstract
"North by East" piece on the perhaps too great success of the reintroduction of the wild turkey in Maine. Brothers Galen and Harold Larrabee of Aghaloma Farm in Knox have counted up to 123 turkeys at a time on their land, where they eat corn and leave droppings. Since 1977, the population has grown from zero to 35,000. The birds have been known to wander more than 50 miles and have proven more adaptable than expected. The number of turkey hunting permits has increased accordingly.
