Abstract

The New England sport of candlepin bowling is more difficult than tenpin. Erin and Mike Needham work at Lucky Strike Lanes in Gardiner, one of 11 sanctioned candlepin "houses" in Maine. Erin Needham, 18, last year became one of the youngest All-Events Maine Candlepin Bowling champions. With a history of the game, a list of candlepin houses, and details on some of the "elder statesmen" of Maine candlepins, like Valerie and Allen Joy of Windham and Charlie Milan III of Bangor-Brewer Bowling Lanes.
