Abstract
Robbie McKay of Kingman and her group, Unorganized Territories United, want to secede from Maine and form a new state, Aurora Borealis. Northern Maine's forest owners and their neighbors feel left behind by the focus on the southern part of the state and its desire to turn upstate private property into environmental playgrounds. The three northernmost counties have lost 10,762 residents since 1990. State representative Henry Joy of Crystal submitted a failed bill to study the breakaway process. The proposed boundary would run from Fryeberg to Bangor to Hancock Point. Details.
