Abstract

"What's in a Picture?" piece on the USS Montauk, which dropped anchor near Portland off Fort Gorges, on May 13, 1898. The warship had served as a platform upon which the autopsy of John Wilkes Booth was performed and as a temporary jail for his co-conspirators. The ship was photographed by Carl C. Coffin of Portland.
