Abstract

Maine experienced its last major hurricane 15 years ago and has been hit with only five named hurricanes in the past 50 years, all of them Category 1 storms by they time they crossed our border. Some experts say Maine has more to fear from a nor'easter than from a hurricane; others say Maine is due for a big hurricane. The Maine Emergency Management Agency does not have a specific hurricane plan, but would have enough warning to be fully manned and positioned for one. This summer, MEMA is mounting a campaign to urge Mainers to take precautions for natural disasters. With details on Maine's five big hurricanes.
