Abstract

The state's best-respected forest-fire-fighting sqaudron is made up mostly of teenagers, who call themselves the Brownville Hot Shots. The Maine Forest Service outpost in Brownville Junction serves the surrounding towns and forested areas throughout the state and nation. In the twenty years since its formation the number of forest fires grew by 6,000 -- and the number of acres lost fell by 40,000. Details.
