Abstract
An article for gardeners on assuring the survival of their perennials. The Plant Hardiness Zone Map is currently undergoing a major revision, taking into account variables such as wind velocity and elevation. A zone map for Maine can be found at www.umext.maine.edu/onlinepubs/htmpubs/2244.htm. A list of Maine native plants is also available from the site. Certain species such as primroses, native wildflowers, bleeding heart, roses, daylilies, Siberian iris, and heather grow well in Maine. Plants that are hybridized in Maine or hail from regions with comparable temperatures are good bets.
