Abstract

Every June, Tom Jewell leads a five-hour hike for Portland Trails, a group he helped establish in 1991. He aspires to make Portland one of the country's most walkable cities by connecting all its pathways and parks. He models the plan on that of James Phinney Baxter, an early mayor of Portland, who had a vision of interconnected parks throughout the city. With details on the walk.
