    Abstract

    "North by East" piece on a project undertaken by Earle G. Shettleworth, Jr., director of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission, to document all the Civil War monuments in Maine. He has visited more than 130 monuments, erected between 1864 and 1931, and suspects many more are yet to be discovered.
