    Abstract

"North by East" piece on a recent shift in the pattern of lobster catches in Maine, with the biggest hauls coming in the fall rather than in the summer as has been the case. David Cousens of South Thomaston, president of the Maine Lobstermen's Association, says the overall catch has also declined. He says annual catches were underreported in the 1990s because dealers weren't required to report their purchases to the state.
