Abstract
"North by East" piece on the Stockton Springs Community Library, founded in 2001 by Mary Staples and her husband, Basil. The library receives $3,500 a year from the town and raises the remaining $6,500 from returnable cans and bottles dropped in a cart near the front door. The town's first library is located in the Colcord House, which the town offered to the local historical society. The Bottles for Books program helps keep the library open 15 hours a week year-round.
