Abstract

Architect Hans Strauch, principal of HDS Architecture in Watertown, Mass., designed his family's Castine cottage as three small houses joined by a spacious hallway. He calls it a "family village within the larger village of Castine." Throughout the 3,000-square-foot home, he has struck a balance between a sense of privacy and a feeling of connection.
