Abstract
Frye Island in Sebago Lake, which seceded from Standish 11 years ago, shuts down from November through April and is mostly run by volunteers, calling itself "a community managed by owners." The islanders would still like to opt out of the MSAD #6 budget, to which they contribute $1.2 million, because they send no pupils to local schools. Their promise to remain part of the district helped their secession effort. With a look at island life.
