Abstract

In an unusual coincidence, the leadership of almost every Maine art institution has changed in the past year. Mark Bessire now heads the Portland Museum of Art, after directing Bates College Museum of Art; artist Donna McNeil assumed leadership of the Maine Arts Commission in Augusta from Alden Wilson, who left after 33 years; George Kinghorn is the new director of the UMaine Museum of Art; Sharon Corwin is new at Colby College, Kevin Salatino at Bowdoin College, and Ron Crusan at the Ogunquit Museum of American Art. The Center for Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport and the Farnsworth Art Museum on Rockland are both searching for new leadership. With details on the predecessors of the current leaders and how the direction of Maine art might change under their guidance.
