Abstract

The former Pine Tree State Arboretum in Augusta, a 28-year-old, 224-acre park, was recently renamed Viles Arboretum, and under new leadership is making itself accessible to a broader public. The name honors benefactor Elsie Viles and helps dispel the notion that the arboretum is a state facility. New director Jay Adams is overseeing a robust program of events and programs. The arboretum has the largest collection of hostas in Maine and a stunning rock garden
