Abstract
Special supplement, "Biddeford-Saco: From Mill Towns to Boomtowns." The two towns contain an impressive inventory of well-preserved industrial buildings and taken together, would be Maine's second-largest municipality. Doug Sanford bought the North Mill Dam in 2004 and now owns more than a million square feet of real estate in the town, which he is rehabilitating for adaptive reuse. With details on the towns' industrial history, a paean to Biddeford by writer Joshua Bodwell, and a look at how the Saco River makes a vital contribution to the area.
