Abstract

A special, in-depth report on wind power in Maine, including views for and against wind energy and a list of questions and answers. Habib Dagher, founder and director of UMaine's AEWC Advanced Structures and Composites Center and head of the DeepCwind Consortium, hopes to build the world's first floating wind farm in the Gulf of Maine and envisions Mainers converting to electricity to heat their homes. Robert Kimber brings an environmentalist's view to issues of large-scale wind-power development in the North Woods, long-term impacts of wind power, weaknesses in the regulatory process, and centralized wind power farms and the massive transmission lines that go with them.
