Abstract

,Maine's once active eel fishery is now limited to 400 licenses per year, partly due to overfishing but also possibly impacted by climate change. Each year, American eels are born in the Sargasso Sea, drift towards the East Coast, and head for fresh water until finally returning to the sea to spawn. Includes details about the eel's life cycle and the methods used to catch them.
