Abstract
Piece on the organizations in Maine that work together to rescue and rehabilitate stranded seals, including the Marine Animal Rehabilitation Center (MARC), Marine Mammals of Maine, and Allied Whale. In the face of dwindling public funds, the collaboration among these organizations is what enables them to continue providing care to sick and stranded animals. Such cooperation was not always the case in Maine, when the now-defunct Marine Animal Lifeline, under the leadership of Greg Jakush, fostered a climate of competitiveness. With side bar giving facts about various seal species found in Maine waters.
