Abstract

“Talk of Maine” piece about the fate of the bridges that span the Piscataqua River. Maine and New Hampshire co-own the Memorial Bridge, the Sarah Mildred Long Bridge, and the Piscataqua River Bridge, all three of which require extensive rehabilitation which is expected to cost over $600 million, yet lawmakers and leaders from the two states initially had trouble working together. They ultimately came together to form the Interstate Bridge Authority which maintains a fund to which each state contributes for bridge maintenance, although questions remain as to where the money is coming from.
