Abstract

"Talk of Maine" piece about Canadian loggers who work the North Woods and the conflicts between labor and the forest products industry. Two players in the fight are Gov. LePage, a former member of the Maine Forest Products Council, and Troy Jackson, a logger and Democratic legislator. LePage argues that Canadian loggers are necessary in parts of the state where there is a labor shortage, while Jackson claims that Maine workers can't get the jobs because of unfair competition and points to the US Department of Labor's H-2A program as an example of how the current situation harms Maine loggers.
