Abstract

Profile of Alex Gray and his business, Waterfront Concerts, which has put on five years of ambitious summer concerts on the Bangor waterfront, pumping more than $16 million into the region’s economy. The article discusses the challenges the venture has faced, from Gray’s experiences running a rowdy nightclub that angered many Oronoites to the fact that Bangor is two hours north of the state’s primary population center. The concert series has benefited from Alex Gray’s savvy, as well as from the fact that Bangor officials have been willing to gamble on a variety of ideas to revitalize the city’s waterfront.
