Abstract
With the closing of mills and subsequent lay-offs, three stories are written that illustrate the human stories behind the economic ones. Rob Sneddon is the author of “A Battle Lost,” the fading football rivalry between Biddeford and Thornton Academy (Jonathan Kozowyk, photographer). Monica Wood is the author of “We Made Paper Too,” which relates the similarities of the stories told in Maine mill towns after the closing of their mills, to the tales told by people in towns across the country where their shirts, shoes, batteries, etc. factories closed. Ron Currie Jr. is the author of “Last Summer in the Magic City” (Tristan Spinski, photographer), which tells what it is like for a young adult contemplating his future living in Millinocket, where the mill closed in 2013.
