Abstract

Housed at the Penobscot Marine Museum in Searsport is a 150-year-old bottle painted with bird guano. The folk art was likely done by a sailor assigned to the Searsport-based ship, Henrietta, who acquired the guano from Peru's Chincha Islands. It was common for sailors at the time to use their time in port to create related folk art, although not with bird guano as the medium. [image]
