Abstract
Maine was one of the last states to implement an air ambulance service. The first service, Airmed begun in 1993, was short-lived due to the aftermath of a fatal crash. Lessons learned from that service were taken into consideration when the second air ambulance service, Lifeflight, was founded. The not-for-profit Lifeflight made 1,799 transports from 128 Maine towns in 2016. A profile of the service, its crew members, and accounts of some of the trips are presented. [images]
