Abstract

The traditional fisheries industry in Maine is facing challenges related to warmer and more acidic water temperatures, such as crowded fisheries dwindling wild shellfish stock and lobster populations shifting northward. Aquaculture shows promise in keeping the fishery business vibrant in Maine, however it too faces challenges such as fishermen adopting new practices. The article details the challenges and proposed solutions for Maine and its maritime experienced personnel to help enable it to meet the projected increase in global demand in the future. [images]
