Abstract

Aroostook County's annual three-week school break so that students can pick potatoes is a tradition that dates back at least 60 years. But with dwindling acreage and mechanical harvesters, farmers need less help now so some schools have canceled the break. High school junior Ian MacKinnon spoke out against his school canceling the break. Includes transcript of an interview with MacKinnon who discusses the benefits of working the harvest.
