Abstract

An account of an all-Maine student event at Colby College in May 1970 to which Maine senators Edmund Muskie and Margaret Chase Smith were invited. Smith's hardline opposition to the ant-war movement tarnished her reputation among her constituents.Colby junior Stephen Orlov, who had helped organize the event, remembers the hostility with which the students greeted her and her poor handling of the questions.
