Abstract

Short essay on the author's attachment to the aromas of Maine. The author reminisces about her childhood summers in Castine, and how the scents specific to those summers - from the mud of the clam flats to the mothball scent of the blankets at the family cabin - came to mean "home" to her. She describes the importance of those scent-soaked memories in choosing to return to Maine after her retirement. (Number 154 of this issue's "200 Reasons to Love Maine.")
