Abstract

Feature piece on Abby Barrows, a 37-year old Stonington native who farms oysters in her 2 1/2 acre aquaculture lease, Long Cove Sea Farm. She is also a participant in a USDA-funded project to identify and test alternative materials that can be used in oyster farming, rather than the plastic that is currently ubiquitous in the industry. Barrows began studying microplastic pollution ten years ago, when there was very little knowledge of microplastics.
