Abstract

The story of Barry Dana's attempt to better his time at the "100 Mile Wilderness challenge," in which hopefuls try to run the entire length of the storied stretch of the Appalachian Trail in under forty-eight hours. Details of the run are interspersed with reflections from Dana, former chief of the Penobscot Nation, on the ways running in this part of Maine helps him connect with and honor his culture.
