Abstract

An article dealing with the contamination of Maine farms with PFAS, also known as "forever chemicals," degradation-resistant substances which now permeate the environment and pose a health risk to humans. Discusses the apparent link between the contamination of farms and past programs promoting the use of wastewater treatment sludge as fertilizer. Discusses other sources of PFAS contamination in Maine, including high levels in the fish in the Penobscot River, which poses a particular risk to members of the Penobscot Indian Nation. Details plans to document and combat PFAS contamination in Maine and other states.
